What kind of counselling do you do?

I am trained in a model known as person-centred counselling. A person-centred counsellor shows up as themselves in the room, is very empathetic and takes a non-judgemental approach. I also use a trauma-informed relational model, which creates safety and acknowledges you as a whole person. I see our work together as a collaboration. Other approaches I use are Internal Family Systems Therapy and Somatic Experiencing, and I draw strongly on work around Polyvagal Theory and Interpersonal Neurobiology.

How often should I come?

Person-centred counselling is a process that is built on trust and connection. We suggest clients start with a minimum of three sessions, no more than two weeks apart - then check in to see how things are feeling. It’s important to acknowledge that exploring the impacts of pregnancy, labour & birth often takes time. Giving that time to ourselves is part of how we begin to repair.

Can partners come?

Yes, in some instances partners can come and join you for sessions. This needs to be arranged in advance and with plenty of prior discussion.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes, if that is what works best for you - young babies are welcome.

Do you do telehealth appointments?

Yes. Telehealth (online) sessions are run through the Cliniko platform. If you like, you can even do a mix of some telehealth and some in-person appointments, whatever works best for you. You will be emailed all the information you need if you book an online appointment.

How do I pay?

You will be emailed an invoice after the counselling session. Payment is made direct deposit/funds transfer.

Can I use a mental health care plan?

Unfortunately no, you cannot use the plan for counselling appointments.
